SL5B - Linden Lab Loves Kid Avatars because the make the grid go round and round

My project is finished in SL5B, all thats left to do is promote it. It's been an interesting roller coaster this year, never did me or Marianne think our ideas for SL5B would create such a huge pile of drama.

At the core of it all is a true story, some people know it, some have just been swept along with exaggerated assumptions. I would love to post the chatlog of the faitful meeting with Dusty Linden just to lay down the truth, but i'm not sure if it wold break TOS of Secondlife.

All i can say on my blog is that the truth IS that when i and marianne submitted our ideas we were taken a side and told we COULD build them but not to represent our community of Child Avatars. So if we want to use the word BAN in any context then it should be that Child Avatars were NOT banned from visiting or building in SL5B, but WERE banned from building anything to represent the SLC and Child Avatar community at the Linden Lab Sponsored events. This is the TRUTH that can not be over written by any official blog posts.

What else is true is that Linden Lab did rethink its decision. Wether this was because they had a change of heart, got slapped by other Lindens, explosion of scathing blog stories or pressure from their resident protests i guess we'll never know. I and many others were allowed to resubmit our ideas and i think ALL of them were this time accepted with an agreement to stick to guidelines. These guidelines seemed straight forward enough and made me wonder exactly what they were expecting me to build?

Anyway with help from Myrtil, Sven, Akiko, Flo and Jimmy we managed to create the Childhood Dreams Dome pretty much exactly how i had envisioned it before linden Lab kicked up a fuss. Its an interactive journey through a cloudscape of dreams telling the stor of a man who dreamt he was a boy again and the adventure he has with new found friends. A symbolic representation of the Second Life Child Avatar that i hope inspires and enlightens other residents who visit it.

The only change i had to make to the build was the name of it, i had to change 'The Slumberland Dome' to 'The Childhood Dreams Dome'. If only Dusty had said that at the start! I also decided to go ahead and place the SLC logo on it after a few concerns about what people thought about me and some of my friends.

Ok so below is a sneak peak at the Childhood Dreams Dome. Hope you find time to visit it....

The Circle is complete

So yeh, Linden Lab decided it was actually ok for me to make a build representing the SLC. Just what the SLC stands for is being questioned by some at the moment. When it was first formed couple years ago it was just a group of people who were kid avatars, a way for the child av community to communicate with each other and share info and advice and a group to feel belonged to.

Since the initial meeting with Dusty Linden, some of the SLC members have been busy campaigning to the other contributers and LL to get their decision reversed and during the week their determination finally paid off. LL do make mistakes, and do listen and after being given the opportunity to resubmit my exhibit Dusty said she was excited that we where allowed to take part and that she could not wait to see the Tale Of Will realised.

The only catch is Dusty and Everett Linden both have to look over my shoulder at my exhibit while its being built, but i dont see a problem in that. I'm enjoying the fact that LL are taking such a personal interest in what i do. It closes the gap between LL and Child avatars. The more info about what drive child avatars that gets through to LL the better.

Kids5B - Ordo ab Chao

I held 2 meetings yesterday to a crowd of builders at Kid5B. I explained a few things i wanted to happen at the event and what i felt was lacking. Understandably there was quite a reaction and the debate was quite huge. Of course i did not get to be project manager which in many ways i'm relieved, and i did this whole crazy thing to clear my own selfish conscience.

A lot of you will probably have no idea what im on about and be confused and frustrated.

The Kids5B mess

I spent most of yesterday at my island trying to avoid anything to do with Kids5b, but instead i ended up explaining my reasons for not taking part to everyone. The idea was that i would not be happy with what anyone did there and that i'd want to take control and change it all, so i could not take part.

Myrtil managed to convince me to go take a look at what had been done so far and i wish i had'nt as i was shocked at the disorganised mess. There is no clear vision or co-ordination there and i cant handle that! its not fair on all the builders putting so much effort into it.

[UPDATE] i apologise for sounding like i did not think the builders there are doing a good job, my rant was towards the very thing that does not exist there

SL5B and ME (loki Eliot)

A lot has happend so quickly in the past few days. Feelings have run high, friendships strained and leaderships called into question. A week ago i was having fun searching for a Crystal Toe, and right now i was supposed to be working on a fun imaginative build for the SL5B. Instead im at RL work stressed and tired after a weekend of trying to work out whats going on in SL.

As most of you know by now the Second Life Childrens Community has been told they can not contribute to SL5B. Originally when i heard Linden Lab had an issue with us being there was because of our desired cultural name 'second life children'. I thought it would just be as simple as changing to something like 'Second Childhood' or 'Forever Young'. I think Marianne thought the same and we were both completely shocked when we were told we would not be allowed to build at all unless under the name of another community.

It did'nt really settle in for a while. First i was thinking 'dam, all that work i had spent already on it', then i started to realise just what this meant overall and i could not believe it. During the meeting i discussed my concept for my build and in the end i just could not see their being any reason for doing it if i could not put the SLC stamp on it. Im very proud of my community and how responsible they have been over the last few years, and if i cant celebrate that, then there is no point.

People say to me 'why are you rolling over for them?' and this really annoys me. I could say i dont care about any of you and that i dont care what Linden Lab says or decideds to do. What matters to me is the community that i've watched grow each year, and if you are part of that then i guess that means i do care about you. And my decission to not bother to protest at not being allowed to take part in SL5B was based on the fact that i dont care. I still have my friends, our community still thrives in our little pockets of fun sims and i still have goony adventures. As much as i dont like Linden Lab much, the bunch of Noobs they seem to be, i do believe they have genuine concerns and protesting against them will not help them or ourselves at all.

So whats happening now?

In responce to my informative post on the SLC blog a committee has been formed from members of the different groups of the child avatar community. They plan to hold their own Kids Birthday event celebrating 5 years of reliving childhood in SL (Kid5B). This is in fact and Idea me and my brother Gemini had entertained many times in the past 3 years. I remember having an idea of everyone being allowed to leave a 1 prim tent in a tent field with their own texture on it, to give the feel of glastonbury. I imagined id be a lot more involved than i am, but after starting work on the kid5B sim i quickly realised i could not do much. At SL5B it was going to be me building one build and not have to worry about how everyone else looked, after all it was just the SLC i was showing off. But at Kid5B the whole place is MY community and so the whole thing needs to look absolutely perfect and im never gonna be given that amount of control. So i've stepped out of the event and am not taking part.

I've heard that both the original organisers of SL5B have stepped down. I was shocked at SignpostMarv Martin who has put SO much work into that event each year and has given it all up. He has offered support to us and so have many other communities in SL.

the bloggosphere is ablaze with the drama surrounding this years SL5B

The Child Avatar community seem to have a nack for sending waves through the grid of residents. I have to think how did Linden Lab expected us to react to this?
This is going to be a stressful furious month, and i cant wait to just get back to just flying my airship through buggy Sim boarders having goony adventures.
